DENTON AND HIS MOTHER ARE HOME AND DOING WELL!!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!
Sunday afternoon, October 3, 2010, after 36 hours of labor, 3 hours pushing, my 18 year old niece delivered her baby boy Denton in an army hospital in Texas and I became a grand-aunt for the first time with the birth of this beautiful boy:
What should have been a completely joyous occasion has instead been fraught with worry. In my humble opinion, she never should have been allowed to labor that long. The baby should have been delivered by c-section. From what I’m told the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck for quite a time period. Also, when she moved to Texas, the army doctors there moved her due date up 3 weeks so when they induced her Saturday, they told her she was at 39 weeks (her blood pressure has been high for weeks and she started running a high fever so they induced). After Denton was born, they “discovered” he was only 35-36 weeks based on his underdeveloped lungs. He was whisked away from his mother and father and now has been moved to a NICU 2 hours away at a better hospital. My niece, Cheyenne, still has high blood pressure, a high fever, and they cannot control her bleeding. Both she and Denton (and her husband Christopher) are in need of your prayers during this time. Her mother, my little sister Jennifer, is standing by helpless in Missouri with no means of getting to Texas to be with her babies. I stand helpless her in Virginia with money to fly my sister to Texas - sure would have been handy to have frequent flyer miles now!
But prayer we can do and prayer we will do. Our Father above will watch over them all.
Update from his mama Chey: "He is 4-5 wks preemie and his lungs are under developed, the cord was wrapped around his neck a really long time, stuff like that. He can't breathe on his own and he still hasn't ate. There is no nicu here so once the baby gets to a certain point and is so sick they transfer him. He doesn't have a feeding tube, because if you look in his pictures that tube down his throat is sucking everything out of his stomach because they are constantly emptying his stomach they don't want to give him milk because he will become much hungrier and his Lungs can't handle swallowing and eating."
